On January 16, 2009, Health and Human Services (HHS) published two final rules to adopt updated HIPAA standards; these rules are available at the Federal Register. Health plans may elect to provide additional options to providers, like dual mode for a period of time or end to end provider testing period. Post-n-Track will publish such timelines and plans in this section when the information is available.
HIPAA Compliance Dates:
- January-December 2011; Partner testing and implementation of the new ASC X12 5010 transaction version.
- Until December 31, 2011; The final rule allows dual use of either the previous version 4010A1, or the new version 5010.
- January 1, 2012; Compliance date for 5010. Discontinue use of the previous ASC X12 version 4010A1. Only the updated 5010 ASC X12 version standard may be used.

Effective 11/15/11:
- Post-n-Track will be accepting 5010 claim files for Oxford HealthCare for 5010 claim files.
- Oxford will be returning a 999 although both the 835 and claim status reports will remain in the 4010 version through 12/31/2011.
*If you are not ready to submit 5010 claims today, Post-n-Track and Oxford will continue to accept 4010 claims through the end of the year 12/31/2011. **270/271 5010 realtime transactions went into production effective 10/12/11. Oxford will continue to accept 4010 270 realtime transactions through 12/31/2011.
***276/277 5010 realtime transactions went into production effective 12/05/11. Oxford will continue to accept 4010 270 realtime transactions through 12/31/2011.
