On January 16, 2009, Health and Human Services (HHS) published two final rules to adopt updated HIPAA standards; these rules are available at the Federal Register. Health plans may elect to provide additional options to providers, like dual mode for a period of time or end to end provider testing period. Post-n-Track will publish such timelines and plans in this section when the information is available.
HIPAA Compliance Dates:
- January-December 2011; Partner testing and implementation of the new ASC X12 5010 transaction version.
- Until December 31, 2011; The final rule allows dual use of either the previous version 4010A1, or the new version 5010.
- January 1, 2012; Compliance date for 5010. Discontinue use of the previous ASC X12 version 4010A1. Only the updated 5010 ASC X12 version standard may be used.

- No specific requirements were created for any 5010 transactions. The standard HIPAA TR3 guides are available to download from the Washington Publishing website at www.wpc-edi.com
- The 999 transaction will implemented post 5010 production date which is 1/1/12. Until then a 997 response will be returned.

- Testing is pending receipt of Provider Test Data
- The 997 Functional Acknowledgement will be used to acknowledge receipt of test data.

Migration:- No migration schedule is available at this time.
