On January 16, 2009, Health and Human Services (HHS) published two final rules to adopt updated HIPAA standards; these rules are available at the Federal Register. Health plans may elect to provide additional options to providers, like dual mode for a period of time or end to end provider testing period. Post-n-Track will publish such timelines and plans in this section when the information is available.
HIPAA Compliance Dates:
- January-December 2011; Partner testing and implementation of the new ASC X12 5010 transaction version.
- Until December 31, 2011; The final rule allows dual use of either the previous version 4010A1, or the new version 5010.
- January 1, 2012; Compliance date for 5010. Discontinue use of the previous ASC X12 version 4010A1. Only the updated 5010 ASC X12 version standard may be used.

- No CIGNA specific requirements were created for the 5010 999 and 277CA transactions. The standard HIPAA TR3 guides are available to download from the Washington Publishing website at www.wpc-edi.com
- Additionally, CIGNA will not be producing a separate COB guide for 5010.

Production:
- No transactions are in production at the moment
Migration:- Please note that the indicated date is tentative as changes may occur in CIGNA's planning. Post-n-Track will move 837 CIGNA Healthcare transactions to production for the 5010 version on December 21th, 2011. After that date, Post-n-Track will no longer accept 4010 version 837's or returning 4010 responses for CIGNA Healthcare.
